Founded in 2001 in Lynchburg, Virginia by PJ Sykes to release the first Kids Techno album, Cherub Records relocated to Richmond in 2002 and has spent the past quarter century releasing genre-defying music. From the mysterious, ever-evolving sonic experiments of Kids Techno to the experimental post-rock of A New Dawn Fades (2002-2008), from the feedback-drenched punk of Hoax Hunters (2011-2018) to the improvised explorations of The Colloquial Orchestra (2009-????), Cherub has documented music by The Snowy Owls, Timothy Bailey & The Humans, WBR, Catacomb Summer, Angels VS Aliens, Baby Help Me Forget, Paratextures, and their related projects. More than just a record label, Cherub operates as a living archive, meticulously documenting every show, every lineup, every creative moment. With a philosophy of "just get it out," anti-elitism, and art for art's sake, Cherub Records celebrates 25 years of being obscure in 2026, with no signs of stopping.
